There is a fair bit of misunderstanding regarding scab on potatoes. Many gardeners advise to keep lime off potatoes. Potatoes though, are a vegetable that need calcium but they have a narrow pH range in which they won’t scab. If you keep the pH in range of 6.8 to 7.0 your potatoes won’t scab. Gypsum, egg, shells, oyster shells or bone is the safest way to get calcium to potatoes without scabbing. The best advice is to check your soil’s pH regularly to avoid potato scab.
